Caden — September

Caden loved going to Hurricane Harbor again!  His favorite is still Bonzai but the Wahoo Racers are a close second.  Now we just need to go on a day with no lines … Maybe next year!

Labor Day weekend we drove to DFW to spend time with Min and Grandbobby.  After lunch at La Hacienda, we all went back to see Grandbobby’s new house.  The kids got to drive his golf cart in the neighborhood and we enjoyed getting to visit.  The kids love the golf cart!  Afterward, we helped Min load a few things still at the old house.  Both kids found items they picked to take home, but Caden chose some ceramic geese, binoculars, and a picture for his wall.  Keller and I had tickets to see La La Land at the Meyerson that evening, so Min graciously kept the kids for our date night.

Labor Day we took the boat to the lake!  While waiting to go, Caden was walking on the boat trailer and fell off.  On the way down, he scraped his leg on the side of the trailer.  He had two nasty looking bruises on his leg!  It took him a bit to get over it, but it didn’t stop him from having a great time on the tube.  Gertrude can pull it okay when it is just the kids, but she has a harder time if there is an adult on the tube too.

While Kamy was volunteering for her photo shoot with a local friend, Caden came along too.  I snapped a couple of sweet photos of him — both by himself and together with Kamy.  I love my boy and he loves his sister!

Caden finally has a clock in his room!  He has been allowed to stay awake at night for “a bit” after bedtime to read, but there was no way to specify a time he needed to turn off the light.  Being the good boy he is, he did an excellent job turning out his light when he was tired and going to bed.  But now he can watch the clock and go to bed “on time.”  We still haven’t given him a hard bedtime either — he’s really good about turning off his light and just going to sleep when he is tired.  On the rare occasion he is still awake at 8:30 when Kamy has to turn hers out, he has to go to bed too.

When Kamy hurt her foot, I left Caden with our friends for the afternoon.  He had a good time and everyone got along great.  They said he was welcome to come play any time.  Kamy’s injury put a damper on “Fluffy’s birthday party,” but at least the rest of the kids had a good afternoon.

Caden currently plans to be a police officer when he grows up.  Everything is pretty black and white from his perspective, so making sure people follow the laws is very important to him.  This has been his intention for at least a year now, so I have a feeling it may stick around long term.  We’ll have to see!  Lately the kids have been pretending to rescue animals that are in danger from poachers and hunters and Officer Caden is arresting them.  Kamy is directing the game from afar, naturally.

School is rolling right along.  Caden is approaching the end of his 1st grade math workbooks and is doing great.  He’s decided that “he likes math!”  That’s always a good sign — not only does it feel easy for him because the curriculum is working, but having a positive attitude will make it that much easier moving forward.

The K12 spelling program is still working really well for both kids.  It gives Caden a chance to practice his handwriting and letter formation and he doesn’t feel like he’s behind Kamy since they’re doing the same program.
