Lots of Firsts

Kamy has had quite a week.  It seems that things always go in spurts when it comes to babies — learning included!  Kamy pays attention to everything that goes on around her, so it doesn’t surprise me that she’s learning so much.  Things had slowed down a bit the last couple of weeks, so I wasn’t sure when to expect her to start hitting new milestones again.  Apparently the time had come!

Here’s a run down of all our new things:

Sit up and stand up:  When Kamy lays on her back, she’s learned how to first sit and then stand up.  She grabs my fingers with her hands and lifts up her feet.  Then I can pull her up to a sitting position.  With just a little more pulling, she’ll straighten her legs and lift herself up until she’s standing.  It’s a fun game!

Rolling:  As the earlier post says, Kamy’s learned the trick to rolling from her back to her tummy.  It takes hardly any time at all now and she sure is quick!  She also rolled over in her crib and was on her tummy the last two mornings.  I need to go to the store and buy a sleep positioner now — it’s safer for her if she stays on her tummy while sleeping.  Until she can reliably roll over to her back, she needs to be relatively stationary.

New Swaddleme:  McKamy’s officially outgrown her old Swaddleme blanket and is now in the large size.  I could still velcro her in the old one, but she’s gotten so strong she could bust out anyway.  I still want to swaddle her at night to help her sleep, so a trip to Babies R Us was necessary.  The new one is still a little big, but it stays closed much better.

Reaching and Holding:  Kamy’s officially started reaching for items that are near her.  She’s also getting better at judging distance and will grab on to an item the first or second attempt.  Of course once she’s captured it, it ends up in her mouth.  She’ll also grip her toys and anyone’s hands tightly and hold on with all her might.  The tips of her fingers even turn white when she’s got a good grip.  Along these same lines, she’s also starting to explore different textures.  She spent a little time touching Daddy’s beard on Monday, trying to figure it out.  Her look of concentration was adorable!

Teething:  Our sweet baby girl is starting to teethe.  I can’t see a tooth yet, but she definitely had hard bumps under her gums and I can feel them when she chews on my fingers.  We bought her two teethers that can be chilled in the fridge, so those are getting more use.  Her teeth seem to bother her the most in the evenings, poor little girl.

Arms:  Kamy’s learning that she has control of her arms and that her hands are an extension of her body.  She’ll wave them all around her.  I’m working with her to learn that she can use her arms for balance and holding onto things for support.  She’s also started to use her arms to hold herself up when she’s on her tummy.  It won’t be long until she learns how to crawl!  The arms really came into action when we had swim class this weekend … they make the water splash!  She’s not splashing on purpose, but she’s intentionally moving her arms around and wonders why she gets water splashed on her when she does it.  Splish splash!

Here are some photos from this week – spending time with Nana on Wednesday, dinner with Daddy on Thursday, and lunch with Grandmindy on Friday.

Giving Kisses:

Look at those blue eyes!  I hope they stay blue, they’re so pretty.

We love going to McAlister’s … there’s so much to look at!

Kamy, you’re loved by so many people!

  1. What a sweetheart! It’s amazing all that she has learned to do with herself! I can’t believe how good she is doing sitting and standing already. What a smart little girl!
