Labor Day Weekend

This past weekend we were able to escape the craziness of DFW and head to our property in Linden.  We’d taken Kamy once before, but she was so little it was hard to enjoy most of it.  This time was completely different!

Garin and Payton were able to join us out there too, so everyone had a great time.  Garin and Payton spent the majority of their time shooting skeet clays over the lake and the noise didn’t phase Kamy at all.  I think their shoulders were black and blue Monday morning.  We also cooked over the fire, made s’mores, shot off fireworks, and Payton and Keller braved the cooler weather Saturday night (69* at the time) and went swimming.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous!  A cool front finally rolled in and broke the hot weather we had all summer.  Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the highs were around 85* with a great breeze.  It doesn’t get any better than that in Texas! Kamy loved spending time laying on her blanket on the deck or in her pack n play watching everything around her.

We didn’t really have any trouble with the bugs this trip either.  The cooler weather and relatively dry August seemed to drive them off and we spent nearly all our time outside enjoying the weather.  Since I can’t put sunscreen or bug spray on McKamy yet, I have to be particularly careful about it.  It wasn’t a concern this time though!  She got three mosquito bites across the entire weekend and they didn’t seem to bother her a bit.

McKamy was also very interested in my cup while we were sitting under the trees … it’s so surprising what catches her attention.  It’s not always what you’d expect!

Kamy is getting to be such a great traveler.  She’s always been flexible and adaptable to where ever we take her.  And I think she’s starting to learn that the best course of action when she gets in her Adventure Seat (ie – car seat) is to go to sleep.  It makes everyone happier!  She slept from Fort Worth all the way to Sulphur Springs where we stopped for lunch and then went right back to sleep when we hit the road again until we got to Linden.  On the way home she slept all but the first 10 and last 10 minutes.  Perfect!  That makes traveling so much more pleasant!  Speaking of sleeping – she also graced me with a full night’s sleep for the first time in about three weeks while we were out there.  Hooray!

We are so excited about Kamy growing up spending time in Linden.  It’s always been a place I remember spending significant time when I was little.  We have a list of projects we want to work on out there and several of them are for Miss McKamy.  We’re going to rebuild the sand box that Regine and I used to play in and bring in more sand for the beach area by the dock.  I hope she has a special place in her heart for Linden like we do!

A short video I shot while standing on the dock. It’s so peaceful out there!
