One of Kamy’s Christmas gifts was the funds to enroll her in the local swim school here in Plano. She seemed to enjoy the introductory class we were in last summer and fall, so it made sense to continue. There are two other little girls in the class — one who is Kamy’s age and one who is almost three.
Kamy’s swim buddy, Kate (who happens to be 2 weeks older than Kamy):
Needless to say, she’s still having a blast! Keller’s been able to work from home the last several Wednesdays, so he’s joined us a swim class too. Last week I sat out and took photos while Daddy and Kamy enjoyed the lesson.
Motor-boating:
Kamy’s already going under water for about 2 seconds. That seems like an eternity to me but she’s handling it great! We’ll gradually increase the duration under water until she learns to start kicking her feet and bobbing to the surface. Babies are naturally buoyant, so it’s mostly a matter of increasing her comfort level in the water so she can learn how to swim.
Learning how to balance in the water:
Practicing kicking:
Another skill they teach in swim class is how to get out of the pool. The premise is if you fall in, turn around, grab the wall, and pull yourself up. While Kamy is too little to do the lifting herself, she is learning how to hold the edge of the pool and reach up to put her elbows on the ledge. Then a little boost from behind and she’ll use her knees to get up the rest of the way.
Going in:
Getting out:
Having fun on the water gym:
Kamy even liked this orange ball so much our swim teacher let us take it home. What a fun toy!
Thanks for the swim lessons Grandpops — they’re so much fun!
Looks like so much fun! We’ve been talking about enrolling Ian in swim lessons, and this has more than convinced me. He likes to play at the creek by our house, and I think it is high time he learned what to do if he ever fell in.
Looks like great fun!!!
what a cool swimsuit!
