Kamy – 2 Year Update

Here are the milestones that Kamy picked up by her second birthday.  It’s amazing to me how quickly she learns and I’m constantly trying to come up with new vocabulary, concepts, and categories to teach her about.

  • McKamy loves to open presents!  They’re a much bigger deal than they were at Christmas and she was so excited whenever we’d talk about getting presents for her birthday.  She’ll take a deep breath and gasp or ooooh about whatever she’s opened, even if she doesn’t really know what it is or does.  Hehe!  She’s been saying “happy birshday” a lot lately and will sing to other people as well.  It’s even been my birthday lately … “happy birshday Ma!”  It’s pretty adorable.  Kamy was blessed with beautiful clothes and fun new toys from all of our family.

  • Kamy is really big into singing songs right now.  She’s learning how to change her pitch and will mostly follow the tune of the song as she sings.  It’s super cute!  She’s almost got the ABCs down correctly, just a few missed words at the end and skipping d, m, n, and r.  She loves to sing the Wheels on the Bus, the ABCs, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.  I can’t tell you how many times a day I hear “Sing ‘gain?”
  • Hand in hand with singing is dancing!  She has the cutest little dance and loves to spin around in circles until she’s dizzy (or the music stops, whichever comes first).

  • Whether it’s because she’s officially two or because she picked it up at church, Kamy’s starting to try pouting to get what she wants.  It’s pretty adorable, even with tears and a tremble-y lip.  So far I’ve been pretty consistent in not letting it work, but my resolve is definitely tested.  Several times I know the answer could be yes, and I could let her do “xyz,” but I don’t want her to learn that pouting is the way to get what she wants.  It’s tough being a parent!
  • Kamy is also getting really good at kicking and throwing balls around.  The rule is she can only throw balls and beanbags … and she’s pretty good about following that.  If she throws something else, she gets one warning before that item goes away for the rest of the day.  That has been a sufficient deterrent so far.
  • Kamy is getting much better at sharing with Caden lately.  While she isn’t always okay with him playing with her toys, she’s taking more initiative to share with him and will give him a stack of toys to play with.  The other day she decided he might like all her stuffed animals, so he ended up with a pile bigger than he is!

I’m currently planning on continuing the monthly updates for Kamy — it’s a good way to keep me accountable and pay attention to what she’s learning and how she’s growing on a monthly basis.  Plus I can post all the good photos from that month, like this one from Nana’s house!
