Monday morning we converted Kamy’s crib into a toddler bed. Kamy loves her big girl bed!
She hasn’t tried to climb out again since the first two tries back in November, but we thought it was time regardless. She’s more than tall enough to climb out if she wanted to and we are planning on being home for the next six weeks or so … so this seemed like as good a time as any to make the transition. We put one of the child proofing safety knobs on her bedroom door so she can’t let herself out.
Somebody was super hyper that morning and was having a hard time listening and staying out of the way while Daddy was putting everything together. And we couldn’t put her in her room to be quiet either … as we were in there ourselves. =P
Caden was helping too!
The first thing Kamy did once the bed was put together was climb up on it and start jumping … silly girl! Granted, she promptly bit her lip in the process too, so that may have put a damper on the fun.
Kamy’s first nap time was a no-go. She didn’t really protest and stayed mostly quietly in her room for an hour … but no sleeping was done. Not only that, I heard her rattling the door knob a few times. Then about an hour into “nap time,” I hear the pitter patter of little feet and Kamy ran into the office calling “Momma Momma!” A little someone had managed to get the child proofed door knob OFF her door. I can’t say I was expecting that! Considering she needed a nap, it made the rest of the evening a bit ragged.
She did really great going to bed that night though! I’ve been really careful to keep the same night time routine with her, including picking out an animal to sleep with, singing a song to her, and laying her down in bed. She now gets to keep a sippy cup with her in bed (one without a straw or a flexible mouth) and sometimes a second animal or a third blanket sneaks in. I can’t really limit those latter two items very well any more, so I’m just letting it go.
The current plan is to require Kamy to pick up her room before bed time and quiet time is over. She has an hour or so twice a day where she is awake in her room — which means the Kamy-bomb has plenty of time to go off. Animals are strewn around the room, socks are laying here and there, sheets are unfolded … yesterday I caught her pulling up the laminated finish off her bedroom door. NOT really what I was going for there!
Kamy remains our flexible, easy-going child. I’m so appreciative of how she handles change and transitions … it makes being a Momma easier and a lot more fun for sure! I’m so proud of how you are doing and of the little girl that you are becoming. I love you!
PS – I did NOT dress her in those clothes that morning … she’s started picking out and putting on her own attire each day and she apparently decided that pink leg warmers and red bloomers over her leggings were necessary. <Shields eyes!>
Sweet, sweet! Precious little girl!
Time is running fast…Kamy is a realy a big girl now!!
Very cute also!! and Caden looks like a funny boy.
Chione, I like you updates very much.
