Galveston Trip

A few weeks ago, we went down to Houston to visit our friends Lauren and Karl.  The trip was fairly short — we drove down Friday morning and then back home Monday morning, so we spent two full days there and Friday afternoon.

On Saturday we went down to the Moody Gardens to see the rainforest pyramid.  Both kids did good and enjoyed looking at everything.

Daddy’s shoulders give the best vantage point to see!

Unfortunately, after renovating the damage from Hurricane Issac they did not bring back all the animals that used to be in the pyramid.  It mostly focused on plants and trees of the rainforest … and less the animals that I remember.   We considered going to the aquarium afterwards, but nap time was rapidly approaching and little ears were having a hard time listening.

Sunday morning we went down to Galveston with Lauren and Karl to visit the beach!  We’d been talking to Kamy about going to the beach and she was so excited!  The last time we were at the beach was September 2010, when Kamy was just six months old.  She’s changed a bit since then!  =P

I ordered a life jacket for Kamy before we left, so the beach was the perfect place to try it out!  She loved wearing it and it gave her (and us) a lot of confidence in the water.  At one point she was bobbing on the waves and said “I’m floating on the high seas!”  That made us all laugh — where does she pick up these things?!  I can’t think of a book uses that phrase at all …

When we first got to the beach, Caden decided he was going to head out to sea.  He just started crawling off and made a bee line for the waves.  Where’re you goin’ little boy?

The sand was very interesting and it took quite a bit of convincing before he stopped attempting to put sand in his mouth.  Silly boy!

Overall we had a great time in Houston and Galveston.  It was nice to have some down time with Lauren and Karl and talk about anything and everything (I think we covered every major political hot-button issue out there in one night, lol).  Both kids did great on the five hour drive down and back.  Kamy’s already asking when we can go back again!  Maybe next summer sweet girl.  =)
