Kamy – 3 Years Old!

Kamy had a wonderful last month of being two!  Now that we are solidly in the “three” stage, Kamy’s picked up a whole bunch of new things.

  • We have officially hit the “why” stage of toddler-hood.  Kamy’s version is “for what,” but believe me when I say it is the same general idea.  I hear this ALL THE TIME.  I do not mind answering her question when it is a valid one or when she does not already know the answer, but she does test my patience by asking the same question over and over again.  I don’t think I’ve answered with “because I said so” yet, but we’ve definitely met the close relative in “because that is what we are going to do.”
  • Kamy has been a really easy two year old and we have only seen a little bit of the testing that usually comes with this age.  That being said, Kamy did have more trouble listening and following directions than usual this month.  It really wasn’t over anything major, but she was checking a ton of the little things we ask her to do throughout the day to see if we still meant what we said.  As a result, she spent a fair amount of time in her room for not listening.  It did not seem to affect her mood, but her room still seems to be a valid reset button for her listener.

  • Both kids give magic kisses!  Daddy taught them how to blow raspberries on cheeks, so now you get both a regular kiss and a raspberry (zerbit) when you ask for a magic kiss.  It is so sweet and both kids love doing it.
  • Lately Kamy has been taking awesome afternoon naps.  Most of the time she will fall asleep and will often sleep for two hours or more.  She’s slept through dinner time on a few occasions as well, because I try really hard not to wake a sleeping child.  =)
  • Kamy has really been enjoying an educational workbook that I ordered online.  It has a ton of activities in it – coloring, tracing, mazes, which is bigger or smaller, which one is different, etc.  We call it her learning book and she loves to pick a page and activity to do in it.

  • We have started to talk about different jobs and asking Kamy what she may want to do when she grows up.  Right now she wants to find homes for butterflies when she is eight and be a zoo keeper when she is grown up.  Finding homes for butterflies arose while we were out on a walk in our neighborhood.  Kamy was asking where different animals lived and then asked where the butterfly live.  I said that butterflies don’t have homes, but they find a good leaf to hang on to when they want to rest.  Kamy then said “I will find a home for the butterflies when I am eight.”
  • We’ve been talking about the four cardinal directions and the temperature outside while driving in the car.  Kamy can read the display in the truck and can tell us which direction we are pointing (N for north) and how warm or cold it is outside.  She’s gotten much better at reading the “higher” digit numbers and can usually say the temp correctly (ie – 78* is seventy eight or 82* is eighty two).  It is not always right, but considering we haven’t specifically worked on any numbers higher than 30, I am very proud of how quickly she is figuring it out.
  • Kamy has an interesting negotiating strategy when she wants something.  Now what are we going to do when she gets more emphatic?  Lol!

  • I try to give Kamy a lot of choices throughout the day.  Instead of choosing though, sometimes she will say “will you pick” instead.  Often she does not agree with your choice though, or will ask you to choose “x” instead, so we are working on her being okay with what we choose since she asked us to decide.  She does not get a trump card!
  • Some goofy little girl I know likes to make up words!  Her favorite right now seems to be “shi shi” and she thinks it is just hilarious when she says it.  We have decided that made up words all mean “will you tickle me please?” and promptly tickle the silly girl.

  • Kamy has been so sweet to Caden this month.  She happily shares her M&M rewards from going potty with him.  Of course, he now comes to expect one and is rather distraught  if he does not get one.  We have never prompted her to offer him her M&Ms and she does it all on her own.  It makes me so happy to see how good they are together.
  • Lastly, Kamy has picked up a new phrase: “Look at me!”  Keller and I joke that it is the battle cry of a two year old.  Caden has learned it as well and will often cry out “me!” when he wants you to see him.

Kamy had a really nice birthday with all our family.  We celebrated her birthday at home on the 21st, at Min’s house on the 23rd, at Nana’s on the 24th, and then with Oma and Opa and Regine at home again on the 28th.  Here are the highlights of the birthday parties:

Happy 3rd birthday sweet Kamy!  I am so proud of the little girl that you are becoming — sweet, kind, beautiful, funny, joyous, and precious.  We love you so much.
