Kamy – August

August was spent hanging out at home and visiting family in DFW for Garin’s graduation.  The biggest change for Miss Kamy this month has been in her phrases and conversations.  She is recognizing more and more relationships and sometimes blows me away by her comments.  Don’t ever think she isn’t listening, because if you say something, you’re likely to hear it repeated back to you at some point … it may be three months later, but she heard you.  Here are some of her most notable from this month.

  • “I need a new brother because my other brother is in his room.”

  • When discussing the names we chose for her and her brother, we asked her what she would want to name her children: “I’ll think about it when I have them.”
  • The recipe for making meatballs in a conversation with Daddy: “Can you please take the meat and roll it into little balls or crumble it up. Then put it in the oven on ‘fast’ for 15 minutes. That will make it into meatballs.”

  • If Kamy doesn’t follow the rules, occasionally she gets left at home while I take Caden out to do something.  In this instance, I went to the grocery store and left Kamy with Daddy.  This is what she said to him: “I was thinking that maybe you didn’t want to be all by yourself, and what’s why I decided not to go with momma.”  Uh huh, right Kamy.
  • My current favorite: “I’m glad you’re my Momma!” every night as I walk out of her room at bed time.  I’m glad you’re my Kamy!

  • My least favorite came from a Franklin book that no longer lives at our home.  When I give her two choices, she’ll often reply with “I don’t want to do anything!” in a whiney voice.  Needless to say, that doesn’t change anything, but I am ready for that phrase to go away.  Caden’s even picked it up now so we are working on breaking both of them of the habit.
  • Kamy remains interested in her learning books.  She pulls them out every couple of days and we work through various exercises.  She is getting very adept at tracing letters and will attempt to write letters if you spell the word for her.  Kamy writes her name the most often, but she’ll sometimes add Min, Oma, cat, dog, and Momma.  Kamy is getting really good at coloring too!  She can be very meticulous and will color every millimeter of a section in marker, staying inside the lines.  She tends to move on to a new picture before finishing one, so we have a million partially colored pages lying around the house.  =P
  • Her dexterity is also improving.  She can button the little buttons on her shirts or dresses and is attempting to tie knots.  I haven’t specifically work on tying a bow yet, but I have a feeling we aren’t too far out.  She’s also pretty proficient at peddling on her bicycle!  Now if only our drive way was a little more level …

  • Lastly, I’ve stopped putting a door knob cover on Kamy’s door at night.  She’s shown the responsibility to stay in her room until I come get her in the morning and I am very proud of her for it.  I recognize it is all in the expectations that we have set for her, but I don’t worry about her getting out of bed at night and wandering around the house (or leaving the house) at night when we are in bed.  We aren’t quite working on sleeping without a diaper, but the ability to get up and take care of things at night was dependent on taking the knob cover off.  I’m not quite sure when we will work on panties at night, but she is doing great.

I am so proud of my little Kamy-girl.  She’s getting bigger, smart, sweeter every day.  She is such a joy to be around and her silly personality can make anyone smile.
