Caden – October

Mr Caden turned four in October!  He’s such a little bundle of joy, enthusiasm, and love.  He gives the best hugs and is so sweet.  We celebrated his birthday in DFW with family and he was very excited with his new bicycle and train cars.  He also received several Lego Junior sets and really enjoyed putting them together with Daddy.  He did great following the directions and finding all the right pieces to build them.

We are taking a very light approach to school for Caden right now.  He’d be in pre-k if we were doing public school, so most of his time he just watches what Kamy is doing.  He’s an auditory learner though, so he picks up on what she’s learning pretty quickly.  We are practicing tracing letters, writing numbers, basic low-single digit addition, color by number, proper pencil grip and scissor grip.  Speaking of scissors, we’ve also had to discuss that scissors are ONLY for paper, not your hair.  Someone has a jagged line across one side of his forehead.  I’m pretty sure that’s a rite of passage for any kid, so he’s passed with flying colors.

Several new phrases have been prevalent this month.  “Up-see-dups” is now his default response to anything not quite right or if he’s just bored.  I have also heard a lot of “I didn’t mean to” whenever he is getting scolded or fussed at.  He’s trying to use it has a get-out-of-jail-free card but that won’t fly in this house.  We’re working on replacing “go-ed” with “went,” though this one has taken longer to kick out.  English is weird …

Caden is so independent.  He’s fearless — especially with the confidence he’s gaining from his weekly gymnastics class.  One day he jumped from the top shelf in a closet, down to Kamy’s blanket on the floor.  Surprise surprise, he hurt his ankle when he landed.  When he came crying to me, I asked why he did it and he said, “Kamy told me to!”  We promptly then talked about not having to do what Kamy tells him to, especially if she’s not willing to do it herself.  =P

For Halloween, Caden was a train engineer!  He was super cute in the striped overalls and red bandana.  He’s always loved trains, so it seemed like a good fit.  He had so much fun at the fall festivals and trick or treating.
