Caden — May

May was a fun month for Caden.  He has been doing great at his swim class and is getting close to being able to swim without assistance.  He’s braver than Kamy is and isn’t afraid to put his head in the water, so that helps his case.  We aren’t continuing swim class in the summer due to scheduling, but hopefully we’ll return to classes again in the fall.  We’ve promised to take the kids to Schlitterbahn when they know how to swim.  Extra motivation can’t hurt, right?  The kids love playing in water, so once they know how to swim I have a feeling they’ll be wet pretty much 24/7, or as much as I’ll let them.

One afternoon the kids asked Daddy to make them a tent.  Not only did he make a tent, he made a MASSIVE tent with the canvas drop cloths in the garage.  He pinned the corners of the drop cloth down with large nails and propped it up with furniture.  The kids had so much fun playing in it, they asked if they could sleep outside in the tent.  We agreed that they could go to sleep in the tent, but that we would move them inside to their beds about an hour and a half later when we woke them up to take care of the bathroom.  Of course, little sleeping actually occurred outside — but that was no surprise.  =P  Both kids ended up coming inside about 15 minutes after dark.  They worked themselves up about “hearing monsters” outside in the backyard and decided they were done.  It was fun while it lasted and since then they’ve asked to go camping sometime.  We need to find a friend to borrow a tent from so we can make that happen one night.  Camping in the backyard is a rite of passage for kids!

Phrases I never expected to have to say, “Don’t pee in the plunger.”  Yep, I said that.  Because apparently that rule was obscure enough to need reinforcement.  LOL

May was also the end of the preschool two gymnastics program Caden was in.  They end the session with a “Junior Olympics” exhibition where parents can come watch the kids work on the different apparatus.  Caden did a great job, especially with bars, and he even got a medal at the end.  He was so proud!  Caden *loves* gymnastics and is excited to move up to the “Big Boy” class in the summer.  Typically they have kids remain in the preschool class until they are 5, but his coaches said he is ready to move up.

School is going well!  I’ve been alternating math and writing practice each day with Caden.  He also listens along with Kamy when we are doing our geography and world culture lessons.  Lately we have been working on his Horizons Kindergarten curriculum, greater than and less than, measuring with a ruler, and counting by 10s.
