Caden — July

In July, Caden found two more things he wanted to purchase with his lemonade stand money.  Since the kids are making $10-15 each, every day they are set up, they have money burning holes in their pockets.  Kamy is showing to be more of an impulse buyer, while Caden tends to buy things he specifically requests.

This month, that meant buying a black fitted sheet for his queen size bed (which he doesn’t sleep in, as he tends to sleep on the floor instead) and a new noise maker.  He broke his old white noise machine by not being careful with it, so when it stopped working, I told him I wasn’t going to buy another one.  So he did!  He bought one that has six different noise options.  His favorite setting is “summer crickets,” which I find hilarious since nearly every night when I put him to bed I can hear REAL crickets chirping away.  But, now they’re louder and last all night.  =P  The kiddie pool Caden bought in June is still a big hit and they are in it at least 4 days a week!

Both kids have started to save money for our December DisneyLand trip.  They don’t really know what they want to buy, but we’re assuring them that there will be plenty of souveniers to choose from and that it would be good to have some spending money available so they can buy something special.  Caden has put about $40 into his Disney jar already.

Caden loves playing Yoshi’s Wooly World on the Wii.  He nearly always chooses it as his screen time after school is done.  Kamy and Caden have been working together on the same save file and are chugging right along!  They’re pretty decent at it, though it helps tremendously to play on “mellow mode” where if you die you just come back as long as the other person is still alive.  Caden remains my sweet, generous boy who almost always asks to “go second” so that Kamy can play first.

As of now, Caden wants to be an “All-er” when he grows up, just like Kamy.  The newest profession to be added to his list is a “baby doctor,” aka – a pediatrician.

We are working on Caden’s enunciation.  He’s picking up a drawl here and there and has turned “yes” into both “uh-huh” and “yea-ah.”  It makes me laugh to think about it, but we’re sticklers for manners and “yea-ah” just doesn’t come across as nicely.  =)  Caden says “Do you know …?”  all. the. time.  The funny thing is that there is no way we can possibly know what he’s asking about since it tends to be “Do you know what I dreamed last night?” or “Do you know what Kamy told me about “x” three hours ago [when you were still asleep]?”  Our usual reply is, “Just tell me!”

Lastly, for school we’re still plugging away.  Caden is almost a quarter of the way through his Kindergarten level math program.  It’s working really well for him and it does a good job balancing new concepts with review, while being colorful and brief.  While it would drive Kamy batty, it’s a good fit for him.  Caden does about 2 days of math and then 1 day of writing practice.  He’s also participating in the literature and geography curriculum we’re doing with Kamy, so he’s learning a lot there too.  Kamy will often help Caden with his school work and various projects they come up with too.
