Kamy — February

Swim lessons are going well for Kamy!  She’s getting more confident in the water, and she is upset less frequently.  Mrs. K is so patient with her and help her keep improving.  Kamy has a tendency to stress herself out, so Mrs. K has to help her focus and calm down again.  Kamy will also talk about whatever she can think of in order to procrastinate and delay swimming.  I hear a lot of “Less talking, more swimming!” coming from Mrs. K.  It is working though, because Kamy can swim 15′ unassisted now!  The weather has still been chilly, but the kids are troopers and tough it out despite the wind.

In early February, we went up to Colorado to visit Oma and Opa.  We were hoping for a snowy, white trip, but the unusually warm weather meant the snow was scarce.  The kids spent a lot of time playing outside — in the snow where they could find it and climbing the boulders when they couldn’t.

We drove up to Breckenridge one day too.  The kids went sledding on the hill in town while Opa went skiing, before we all headed to the pool.

The kids put their swim lessons to good use!  Kamy felt brave enough to go down the slide several times too … as long as Opa or I were waiting at the bottom to catch her.  Kamy particularly enjoyed the outdoor hot tub.

Games were a big hit once again.  The kids played a lot of WordCrossing and DoodleQuest with Oma.

We took the four wheelers out several times and the kids enjoyed going down the hill and in the neighborhood as much as the Slaughterhouse trail.  They love to go extra fast too, so they’d much rather ride with Opa or Daddy than me.

Kamy is turning into a great, confident reader!  She has really enjoyed reading the Magic Tree House books on her own.  Kamy did a lot of reading in Colorado and also riding in the car.  We were able to borrow the eBooks through the library, so she used our Kindles to read them.  She read books #1-21 in February!  The books take her about about 30 minutes to read and they are on a 2nd-3rd grade reading level.

Kamy did another skills clinic at gymnastics.  She wanted some extra practice on her on running pullovers on the bars.  She can do them more consistently now and has more confidence.

Sadly, Grandmommy passed away shortly after we returned from Colorado.  We spent a full week in DFW supporting family and the kids were awesome.  They definitely had some questions, but they did great being respectful, patient, and flexible for our time in DFW.  We will miss her.

We spent some time at Six Flags with Payton during our stay in DFW.  We did the rounds and rode pretty much everything.  Kamy’s favorite remains Shockwave, though the Boots ride is a close second.

School was pretty limited this month since we were out of town the majority of the time — a week and a half in Colorado and another week and a half in DFW.  Kamy has a new 3rd grade workbook that she on our Colorado trip.  She’s slowly working through her third grade math curriculum too, which she thinks is surprisingly easy.  It helps that a lot of the content is review so far.  =)  We just started reading The Odyssey and the kids are learning about the Babylonians, early Greeks, and Trojans.
