Caden loves to swim — he couldn’t be any happier going to lessons twice a week. He can swim 30-35′ unassisted! Mrs. K has him working on taking a breath and continuing to swim. He also has been working on both his breast stroke and a backstroke. Caden happily spends 15 minutes before and after class playing in the water and would stay in for hours if we had the time. Mrs. K brought diving rings a couple of days and Caden loves to dive down to grab them from the bottom of the pool. He’s my little fish!
Caden and I got to spend some extra time together in March while Kamy was quilting. His playmate was gone for 4 days, so someone had to pick up the slack. =) Caden likes to put on his nice clothes and get “dressed up” for the day. He let me take some photos of him with my 50mm lens one afternoon and the lighting was just perfect. He’s so precious!
Since it was also spring break, Caden went to a morning camp at gymnastics. He liked it a lot better than the camp at the Discovery Science Place. I think the familiar atmosphere helped, but he also got to run around, play in the foam pit and climb the rope, and do some arts and crafts — all things that are right up his alley.
Speaking of gymnastics, his Coach Tom said that Caden has really grown and improved in the last month or two! He has a lot more coordination and core strength than Coach typically sees at his age. So, Coach Tom said he wants to work with Caden one-on-one in some private lessons until the summer session. He would like to move Caden up to pre-team, but the spring session is already full and it is all kids who are at least 7 and up to 12, so Caden would definitely be the little guy. Caden is very excited — he would love to do extra gymnastics, especially with Coach Tom!
Caden loves to jump jump jump on the trampoline. I don’t know if all the trampoline exercise noticeably improved his core strength, but it can’t hurt! We were teasing Caden that his abs are so strong because we tickle him so often!
One day at gymnastics, Coach Tom asked what each kid’s super power would be. Caden’s response was precious:
“I would have magic. I would use magic to make no more war.”
As we’ve been studying history, battles and war huge part of the historical records. My sensitive son with a kind heart doesn’t like the war and is sad that people have to live in it.
Our old counter top ice maker died, so we told Caden he could take it apart. It took him a couple days to disassemble the majority of it, but he loved using his tools to take it all apart. Now he’s asking for more broken things to disassemble!
Caden helped in the garden a lot this month. Between setting up the raised beds for the garden and planting 25 trees in the field and front yard, we were busy! Caden loves to help water every couple of days and wanted to be involved planting too.
I finally got Caden to let me take a video of his dancing. I think it’s hilarious and his legs get going double time! I don’t know where he gets his moves from … it wasn’t me! This is also his current favorite song — Can You Picture That from The Muppet Movie.
Kamy usually talks him into pretending to get married, saving her from a dragon, or dancing at a ball. Here was one joyful celebration dance.
School is good! Caden is working through the start of his first grade math program. So far so good … he thinks it is easy. I really like the pacing of this curriculum for him — it introduces things in little pieces, has a lot of subtle repetition, and it is just the right amount of work daily.
I’m very proud of how good Caden is doing at reading too! When he said that he wanted to learn to read, we jumped into it. It has made his school day a little longer than he’s used to, but that’s really his only complaint about it. Kamy gets a bit impatient waiting while he reads but lately she’s been going up to her room and reading on her Kindle until he’s done.
I love my boy!
