Caden — May

Caden had a blast at the Junior Olympics for gymnastics.  He can’t wait to start summer classes, especially since he is starting pre-team!  Caden is signed up for both the pre-team class and a regular boys class, so he will have plenty of time in the gym this summer.

Daddy and Caden finished reading Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at night.  Caden thought it was funny and loved the flying car.  Caden is getting much better at retelling parts of the story and I always get a re-cap of the chapter when I put him to bed.  Next up, they started reading Nanny Piggins.  It is a bit ridiculous, but Caden likes it so Daddy is tolerating it on his behalf.

Caden expressed a fleeting interest in the piano too.  His natural rhythm is a bit stronger than Kamy’s, but I do not think it’ll stick around for long.  We are still trying to find the right time to work on the piano, but for now Daddy is working with them one on one while the other is doing fun thing before bed.

Blueberry season kicked off at the end of May, so we drove out to Echo Springs Blueberry Farm to pick some.  There were a lot of berries, so it did not take long to eat our fill and pick enough to take home.  Caden likes blueberry muffins and blueberry pancakes, so he was motivated to pick a lot of berries.  This time he managed to get his bucket half full!  He was a big help.  =)

As with Kamy, Caden is learning to play Pandemic.  He loves being the medic — his job is to move around the board and clean up all the messy cubes.  It is perfect for him!

The kids have spent a lot of time outside this month.  The weather has not been too hot yet, so there is plenty of trampoline and sandbox activity going on.  Lately the kids have been running the hose and “digging for treasure” by washing away dirt and hunting for rocks.  At one point a bunch of aquarium rocks were dumped in the back yard, so they have had fun unearthing colorful rocks.  They also found a broken tile that matches our living room tile.  Both kids have been pretending to be archaeologists.  Dirt and water, what could be better?!

In school, Caden is almost half way done with math 1st grade.  We’re introducing triple digit numbers and he is getting much faster at decoding word problems.  He is chugging right along in his reading curriculum and is 70% through it.  Caden is starting to read simple books on his own and with my help!  He is itching to be able to read books, especially since he sees Kamy reading constantly.  If she likes it, he will too!  He’ll be reading on his own in no time!
