Happy 9 month birthday (yesterday) McKamy! I cannot believe that you’re already nine months old — that’s 3/4 of a year. Before I know it I’ll be writing your one year post. Time continues to escape day by day. I am so blessed and grateful that I get to spend each and every day with you – I can only imagine how quickly you’d be growing up if I wasn’t around to see it.
We had our 9 month check up this morning. Everything looks good and she remains a petite little thing!
- 15 lbs – 2nd percentile
- 27.8 inches long – 58th percentile
You bring so much joy and light into our lives. It’s so easy to just look at you and smile. I love your happy personality and curiosity. I love to watch you learn about the world around you. It constantly amazes me how you’ll just figure out something new in an instant. It’s almost like watching a light bulb go off over your head.
In the last month you’ve discovered so much:
* You understand how doors work and love to swing them back and forth and close the door. I’m just waiting for little fingers to get pinched in the doorway, but for now it’s a lot of fun.
* You’ll try to turn on the faucets – especially the cold water tap in the bath tub. Just a little more strength and you’ll be able to do it on your own!
* You love to turn the pages in your board books. As long as the next page pops up, you’ll grab it and turn it. Once we get to the end, you’ll even flip the book over so we can start again. What a smart girl! Momma’s becoming a faster reader because those pages fly by!
* You’ve started to babble! You’ll talk to Momma and Daddy and even your toes. Until recently you’ve always been a ‘watcher’ and seemed content to observe the world around you. Now you’ll tell us what you’re thinking … or at least that you’re thinking. We’re definitely still working on the two-way communication.
* You’ll even sing to yourself and practice talking when I put you down for naps. I have to admit, that’s a whole lot better than listening to you cry! The radio is rarely on in my car anymore since I’d much rather listen to your sweet voice sing to me.
* Your laugh is pure music to our ears. You communicate such joy with your laugh and even though they aren’t a daily occurrence yet, they bring a special smile to our faces.
* If I walk away from you, you’ll go looking for me instead of just crying and waiting for me to come back. You’re starting to figure out how to move around obstacles – couches and tables included. You’ll also head off exploring more frequently now and I keep a close eye on you because you’ll be chewing on Christmas ornaments or pulling over the trash can in an instant.
* You pull up on everything and stand anywhere you can. One handed stances are much more common and I’ve seen you hold your balance for a moment when letting go too … standing is just around the corner.
* Crawling is still much more efficient than trying to walk. If you need to get somewhere, you don’t hold on to our hands and try to walk the distance – just drop down and crawl there.
* You’re quite a pro at eating. Gone are the little glass jars and pouches of pureed baby food. Instead your meals are primarily filled with rich fruit and vegetables. You even polished off an entire waffle for breakfast. Where you put all that food, I’ll never know. Breads and deli meat and pickles have also found a home in your tummy.
* Drinking is well on it’s way too. Water bottles and glasses aren’t safe from your grasp and you’ll do your best to convince us to give you some. Quite often the water ends up all over you (and not much in your mouth), but it’s progress all the same. Sippy cups aren’t happening yet though — we haven’t figured out the trick of sucking on the nozzle instead of chewing on it.
* We’re up to 5 teeth fully in and another two on the way. Both upper canines and your top left front tooth are in, as are the two you’ve had below. The other top front tooth and the bottom left are working their way in right now. Teething is getting more painful and irritating lately, but hopefully they’ll push through quickly.
We love you so much Kamy-girl! Thanks for being the wonderful daughter that you are … we love spending each and every day with you.
