How can my baby girl be only three months out from turning two?!? That can’t be right! =P
This has been a big month for Kamy …
- The biggest change is learning how to put two syllables and two words together! Finally! We’ve been working on that concept for months but she never really tried to piece the sounds together to make more complex words. It’s like a light bulb went off in her mind — all of a sudden she figured it out! Her first successful attempts were at the table. Instead of just saying “more” or “please” when she wanted something, we were encouraging her to say “more please.” When she first figured it out, the second word was so hard to remember. She’d say “mor’ PEES,” with a big emphasis on the please part. Now that she’s doing it consistently, it’s becoming second nature. When she wants something, all we need to do is ask “What do you say” and she’ll reply “More please” or “orange please” or whatever without having to think about it. What a smart girl!
- Since she can now use two words back to back, her current fascination is using adjectives to describe items. In particular, she loves to assign colors and possession to things. White wall. Daddy’s shirt. Kamy’s glasses. Big ball. We’re right on the verge of adding a third word too … she nearly has “Daddy’s red shirt” figured out.
- She’s learning new words at a mile a minute, now that two syllables means something new to her. Daily I find a new word or phrase that she learns and she’s soaking them up like a sponge.
- Kamy’s also getting really good at remembering people and names. It doesn’t take her nearly as long to recognize people she hasn’t seen in several weeks and she loves saying people’s names. Talking about Christmas has been a big deal because we’ve talked about everyone that we’ll be seeing … the list goes on and on! She’s super excited to see family and play.
- For Christmas, Keller and I bought Kamy a booster seat. She’s big enough now that she doesn’t need to be in a high chair, so she’s graduated to a big girl chair. I can’t believe my baby girl is ready for that yet … <sniff>
- We’re starting to have to deal with the concept of sharing … especially toys with Caden. Kamy’s been a bit possessive lately and doesn’t want Caden to play with her old rattles and Pooh Bears and stuffed animals. It doesn’t matter that she hasn’t played with it for months, it’s still Kamy’s.
- We’ve been visiting the library lately and have checked out several new books to read. I’ve quickly learned that we need to get a solid stack of books, else I’ll get super tired of the three new books that show up and we’ll read them 5-8 times each per day. Momma learns quickly! Daddy set up a big box for Kamy with a blanket, pillow, and her books. It’s her new favorite place to read!
- Lastly, we’ve started working on potty training! Kamy’s been fairly interested in the potty and we got her her own little potty that lives in the bathroom. Several times a day she’ll tell me she wants to sit on the potty. She loves to read Daddy’s book in the bathroom, so we spend a lot of time sitting and waiting. She did manage to “go” once, but it was a complete accident and she wasn’t convinced that it was okay … she was fairly concerned. We’re working on it! I’m not pushing the issue but encouraging her when she IS interested in the potty.
We love you Kamy!
