It has been a busy busy time for Miss Kamy lately. Between celebrating the holidays and our trip to NYC, we were gone more than we were home in December. We are looking forward to spending quite a bit of time at home in the next few months.
That being said, Kamy hasn’t hit too many major milestones lately, but there are a few changes that showed up.
- I had to trim up Kamy’s bangs again this month. They kept hanging in her eyes and she is always pushing them out of her face. I’m still not really sure what to do with her hair — it is like mine and super fine, so hair clips won’t stay in. Kamy doesn’t seem to like headbands either, so those don’t seem to be an effective option. I just trimmed her bangs a little shorter, though apparently there are a few wispies that I missed because I’m still brushing hair away from her face. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
- One thing I forgot to mention in our NY post was how Kamy was pronouncing escalators. She called them “es-se-saters” and it was about the cutest thing ever. It did not last very long though, despite our attempts to pronounce them her way most of the time. It certainly made us smile when she said it! Another phrase she has been using lately is “not supposed to do ___,” except she says it “you’re not apposed to ___.” This is primarily directed at Caden, but it’s another example of those little things that make us smile every day.
- Kamy has been singing a lot more recently. It certainly brightens up our days, though we do get tired of the same songs over and over again. Her song of choice this month was We Wish You a Merry Christmas. She also has been singing several other Christmas songs.
- Likely tied in with singing, Kamy picked up a phrase from something somewhere that we cannot figure out! It is only one line, and does not seem to be prompted by anything. It sounds like “up a-dory or-a-day” and is said in a singing kind of voice. It has now kind of morphed into “it’s a snowy kinda day,” but I think that’s from us guessing over and over what she is saying. Anyone have an idea?! Our best guess is it is from a song she learned at church, but I don’t really know. She makes me laugh!
- Kamy has been experimenting with taking naps in places other than her bed. I’m not sure what the fascination is, but it doesn’t hurt anything so we’ve been humoring her. The bed seems a lot more comfortable than the floor, but perhaps she was on to something when I found her in her toy box one day!
- Another freedom we have been testing with Kamy has been leaving her door open when she is sent to her room. Usually she is sent there because she isn’t listening to what we tell her to do, though occasionally it is for a broken rule. She has been doing exceptionally well at staying in her room until we call to let her come out, and I’m so proud of her. She usually sits right in the doorway of her room, but she waits patiently until it is time. Of course I wish she wasn’t getting sent as often in the first place, but she is definitely developing better self-control.
- Lastly, we have been working on potty training. We used both entertainment and rewards to start learning: she could play on the tablet while sitting on the potty and then she’d earn M&Ms as a reward for successful attempts. I am not thrilled about how much time she was spending on the tablet, but it was keeping her stationary and on the potty until she really learned what the feelings meant and the clues for when it was time to go. Sometimes you just have to go with what works. I initially planned on working through potty training before we knew about the trip to NY, so in theory we would have been home for three and a half solid weeks after Thanksgiving for her to learn. When NY came up, it really threw a wrench in the plans. Kamy was just starting to get the hang of using the big girl potty before the trip and then had to go back to full time diapers for NY. She was more aware of it though, since she would usually ask “Do I have a diaper on?” Then we were home for all of five days before heading back to DFW for Christmas. As a result, we did make some progress, but she certainly wasn’t ready for big girl panties all the time. Hopefully we’ll finish it off in January. =)
I am so proud of little Miss Kamy. She is a wonderful daughter and a great big sister to Caden. They are starting to play more side-by-side instead of just independently, and it is heartwarming to see her taking care of him and starting to teach him things.
She is just about the easiest two year old ever, and we are very grateful for the blessing that she is in our lives. She is such a sweetheart and her hugs are priceless! Everyone loves spending time with The Kamy-girl.
