July 4th

2014 kicked off our First Annual Giacomarro Fourth of July!  We’ve been talking about hosting a family get together over the 4th for a couple of years.  We were hoping to be moved to our new ranch by now, but as that hasn’t been in the cards this year, we hosted it out in Linden.  We had a wonderful time and hope to expand the invitation list next year.  =)  It is only getting harder and harder to get everyone together for holidays, so we are hoping that by picking a non-traditional holiday with a three day weekend for a family “reunion,” we can still get a chance to see everyone yearly.

This year we had Melinda, Payton, and Corinne out for the weekend and our neighbors were able to join us one afternoon as well.  The weather was absolutely perfect and it could not have been any nicer — upper 80’s with a breeze.  For summer in Texas, it doesn’t get any better than that!  We had a great time.

Thursday was spent at home in Lone Star.  Min came out the day before and Payton and Corinne drove up and arrived about lunch time.  Min had bought a new toy for Payton to play with — a quadcopter!  Keller loves his, so it was a lot of fun to watch them fly the copters together.

Friday morning we went to Greer Farm just up the road to pick blueberries and blackberries.  Blackberries are Payton’s favorite, so we made an extra effort to go.  The blackberries were mostly done, but we did find two or three pounds for them to take home.  Together we picked about eight pounds of blueberries too, so we were stocked on fruit for the weekend.  From the farm we drove out to Linden for the rest of the afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday.

Relaxing, hanging out, and visiting were at the top of the priority list all weekend … and eating of course!

Laying in the hammocks all afternoon … with a nap or two thrown in for good measure.  =)  Min even wrangled the kids inside for two hours so I could get some hammock time too.  It was fabulous.

The kids loved being in the water and I think they swam for two hours each day.  They sure were prune-y!  I also blew up some water balloons that the kids chased around in the water.

Kamy and Caden both love being out in the woods.  They’re always exploring and picking things up and getting dirty.  Caden spent a good thirty minutes playing in the sand by the fire pit!  I think this boy needs a sandbox …

After it got dark we made s’mores on the fire and the kids did sparklers!  Then Keller and Payton shot fireworks off the dock.

We had a fabulous time!  I really hope it can become a regular, annual thing.  =)  Consider this your invitation to come next year (hopefully at our new place)!  Happy 4th of July!
