Mr. Caden turned five this month! He’s been counting down the days until his birthday and he was so excited to celebrate. Birthdays end up being an extended celebration by the time we see all the grandparents and party at home — he had 4 different birthday events! At home we made a triple chocolate fudge cake with chocolate icing which was quite tasty. He even got to decorate it himself! =)
We gave him a gymnastics floor mat to practice tumbling and Daddy gave him a book so they can start reading one-on-one at night like he does with Kamy. Another one of his favorite gifts was a woodworking set from Grandmommy and Grandbobby.
Caden is getting really good at riding his bicycle! He can go all around the house and he particularly likes to ride down the hill to the fence line on the back side of the house. He loves to go fast and makes some tight turns that makes me cringe. So far so good though, he hasn’t had a major wipe out. <knock on wood>
Both kids had been asking to make s’mores for dessert, so one evening we built a fire in the fire pit and roasted marshmallows. Yum!
Our tree climber had his first fall this month. Fortunately he didn’t break anything, but the fall knocked the wind out of him, scraped his back, and left him a bit sore for the next two days. He was climbing down from his second favorite climbing tree and his foot slipped. I was inside at the time, but I think he fell about 10′. Poor boy! He didn’t climb another tree for the rest of the month. Of course, this was the same day as Kamy’s brush with the copperhead, so my poor Momma heart had a rough one. We all survived the day though!
Caden has been just as interested as Kamy in doing extra chores for income. It goes in phases, but on any given day at least one of them wants to do the optional chores. He has such a sweet heart — he is a giver and it makes him so happy to give money or gifts to other people. I routinely hear him giving Kamy money, “Just because.” For Caden, money is just a way to show that he cares about you — he could care less about spending it on something for him. He has such a precious heart.
Caden wanted to be a police officer for Halloween. His costume came with a whistle — his favorite thing! Everyone commented on his costume while we were trick or treating and called him Officer. He thought that was really funny!
As mentioned in Kamy’s post, we spent two days in Linden with Oma and Opa. Caden loves messing with the water, fishing, and going on hikes. It’s one of his favorite places! Plus there are three adults who are available to give you attention, so if one of them is busy, just ask the next one!
For school, we finished our kindergarten geography curriculum. Both kids have a much better understanding of world geography and different cultures than I had at their age. We believe it is important for them to realize that there are people who live and think differently than we do and that is something worth studying and respecting. It’s been fun to see the kids draw parallels between their experiences and the stories we read from around the world. Caden has finished the first half of his kindergarten math program and is working on his handwriting, so he is doing great!
