July felt like a short month for us — between hosting family for the 4th of July and heading to NYC for two and a half weeks, we were hardly at home!
On the few weekends we were at home, the kids set up the lemonade stand. Cash flow has felt a little cramped lately, so both kids are perpetually on the hunt for more ways of making money. Except chores, those are “boring.” Now they’re trying to make crafts that are worth selling. I think they need more practice and polish before they can claim to be successful artisans.
Keller and Kamy have been reading The Golden Compass at night. It’s quite a bit higher than her current reading level and it has some complicated plot points, so it has been a good challenge for her.
Kamy has been flying through the Rainbow fairies series as fast as I can get EBooks from the library. Since we have access to both the Tyler and NYC libraries, we have a pretty good selection to work with. To be fair, the normal books take her about 20 minutes to read, while the super editions are more like 45 minutes. She can easily polish off a couple of books while reading in her room at night.
Kamy is getting close to level testing in gym. She needs improvement on her kickovers and her back hip circles before she is ready to level test. She is still aiming to move to level four for the fall, but we will see if that happens.
Someone found me using the label maker one afternoon and wanted to make her own! In case you were wondering, the label will let you know where to go.
School has been brief since (1) we had guests or (2) were out of town a lot this month, so there hasn’t been a lot of progress. But that’s okay — that’s the beauty of homeschooling! We did school for a total of seven days this month.
