Renaissance Festival

The weekend of Payton and Corinne’s wedding, we also went to the Renaissance Festival in Magnolia, Texas.  Kamy and Daddy went last year on their Daddy-Kamy date and she really enjoyed it, so we wanted to make a point of going this year as a whole family.  Tying it into the wedding weekend made for a long couple of days but the kids had a nice time.  I chose their Halloween costumes specifically to line up with the Renaissance Festival.  Kamy was a princess and Caden was a knight.  I think they were pretty cute!

Regine happened to be at the Festival that same weekend, so she hung around and showed us all around.  We had turkey legs and chatted and just enjoyed seeing the spectacle that is “RenFaire.”

Side note — While Regine was posing with this character, Caden wasn’t really paying attention.  When he did notice Regine with him, Caden totally LOST it!  I think Caden thought he was coming to get him.  Kamy, however, wasn’t phased at all.  There certainly are some creative cosplayers at the Fair!

One of the rides we tried was the giant swings.  All the rides are people or animal powered, so they had giant swings that were cranked up and then would swing back and forth.  Daddy and the kids rode it.  I think you can tell from this photo how Caden felt about it … he doesn’t really like to be surprised, so it didn’t go over very well.

While walking around, a balloon artist came by and made Caden a sword and Kamy a pink and purple butterfly.  They thought it was so cool that he could make those out of balloons!  Kamy spent most of the afternoon moving the bubbles around on the butterfly’s antenna.  They both popped before we left the Fair, but the balloons were certainly a hit.

We told the kids they could each choose one more ride.  Last year Kamy rode on the elephant, so this time she wanted to ride on the camel.  Of course, I took the opportunity to tell her about camels (gotta learn everywhere, right?) while we were riding.

Caden’s choice was a spinning ride.  Since neither Daddy nor I handle centrifical force very well, Regine volunteered to ride it.  I had my concerns and wondered if he’d like all the spinning and the speed, but Regine kept him relaxed and he did enjoy it.  I would have been soooo dizzy!

We also watched a little of the Birds of the Wild show.  It was pretty similar to what we’ve seen at the State Fair before, but the kids loved watching the large birds fly around over their heads.

Before we left that evening, we stopped at the Greek area for gyros.  There was a belly dancer group performing on stage and both kids were mesmerized.  Kamy was super cute and was dancing along with the ladies.  She was copying their dance movements but would get shy when she realized I was videoing her.  Here are two short clips I did manage to get.

We had a great time at the Ren Fair!
