Kamy loves gymnastics! Her main focus is working on back bends and back hip circles. Kamy’s goal is to pass level testing for level 4 for the summer session. She is signed up for two summer classes per week, which she is very excited about! She has been practicing a lot on the trampoline — it is a good way for her to practice without worrying about landing on a firm mat.
Oma and Opa, Min, and Granpops all came out to visit in April. We enjoy having guests! The kids love all the extra attention. The weather has been beautiful lately, so we spent a lot of time outside. We even made s’mores one evening!
Oma and Opa stayed for several days. They not only brought Kamy’s birthday presents, but they bought each kid their own fishing pole! We took them down to Lake Palestine to try out, but we didn’t catch anything.
The kids talked Opa onto the trampoline too — they love to get “synchronized” and go flying super high! Kamy was practicing her front flips with the extra height.
On Easter, the kids and I drove out to Linden for the day to see Regine and Oma and Opa. The kids were itching to go fishing, and Caden caught several fish! Kamy came up empty, but that is how fishing goes. Opa took the kids up to a parked bull dozer and they got to climb up on it. They both thought that was pretty cool!
Miss Kamy has too many clothes. Too many dresses in fact — there are 36 dresses in her closet! That doesn’t include her shirts and skirts and pants that periodically come into rotation too. I bought three for her at the consignment sale this spring (and ignored a lot of other cute ones), and then Oma and Opa gave her 8 dresses for her birthday. Oma always finds cute clothes at the thrift shop in Denver!
I also bought Kamy a set of 8 books at the consignment sale. She has been reading the Pixie Hollow fairies chapter books and thinks they’re pretty good. She’s also been working through the Magic Tree house series. She finished the regular MTH books, through #28 (reading level 3-3.5), and now started Merlin Missions. The Merlin Missions editions are longer and are at a higher reading level, around 3.5-4.
Kamy has really liked getting to staying up until 9:30 reading at night. Her kindle tracks how much she reads (number of pages and time reading), and she often reads for more than an hour per day. She is mostly reading the eBooks for the Merlin Missions and is already through #14. She is supposed to turn off her light and plug in her Kindle at 9:30, but often she falls asleep while reading. Goodnight Kamy!
Daddy and Kamy finished reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Kamy really enjoyed it and would happily continue in the series, but since each book gets darker and more complicated, they are taking a break before continuing with Goblet of Fire. They started reading A Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom before bedtime. I had never heard of it before, but it was on a recommended reading list from an online blog and Kamy loves it! It is another side of the princess stories — what happens after the prince and princess marry, and it isn’t “they all live happily ever after.” LOL Sleeping Beauty is spoiled, Cinderella’s Prince Charming is a weenie, and Gustav (Rapunzel’s prince) is not so smart. Maybe first impressions based on appearance and betrothal based on expanding kingdoms aren’t the best way to find a spouse!
Daddy and Kamy watched first Star Wars movie this month too! Keller has been excited to watch the movies with her. Daddy let her stay up after normal bedtime to watch the movie with him (and without Caden). They’ve started the second movie but haven’t finished it yet. So far Kamy says she likes it, but I think she likes getting to stay up late and do something special with Daddy — it doesn’t really matter what movie it is. =P
Kamy made cookies as surprise for Caden one day! She made chocolate cookies with Andes mint bits. She read the ingredient list, measured the ingredients, helped make the cookie dough, and placed the dough on the cookie sheets. They were pretty tasty! Plus, now there are cookies in the house for everyone to eat. We’re not going to do this on a “regular” basis, but it was very sweet of her to do for Caden.
School is pretty good. Kamy has been pushing back a bit on both math and spelling, mostly complaining that it is boring and she doesn’t want to do it *every day.* She lost screen time privileges twice this month due to excessive complaining. Math has been a combination of elapsed time on an analog clock and reviewing money. History is touching on ancient Greece and Rome, as well as the mythology pantheons.
