Kamy – December

Kamy is all about helping!  I love her sweet heart.  She just glows when she gets to help with whatever I am working on.  She still loves to help in the kitchen with measuring and pouring ingredients, but she has expressed an interest in washing now too.  She will happily stand at the sink and wash dishes and tools as fast as I can make them dirty.  When I run out of things, my sink gets a good scrubbing.  =)  I have to admit, it’s rare my sink has been this clean on a regular basis.  She’s also been helping me in the garden with pulling weeds, pruning, and general yard maintenance.  She often says, “I am a big helper!”  She’s definitely right!

New this month is her attempts at wrapping gifts.  She watched me wrap all our Christmas gifts very closely and took the scrap pieces to wrap up her own toys.  I prepped several small pieces of tape and she could wrap and re-wrap to her heart’s content.  Her heart was certainly in the right place, but I did nix her plans to give her naked doll and miscellaneous hair bows to family members.  Hehe.

I introduced Kamy to word searches on my phone and she is hooked!  I hope it will continue to help her on the path to reading — phonetics, site words, and spelling included.  The app I’ve been using allows you to change how large the grid is and how many words need to be found.  So far we have been doing all animals and Kamy’s really enjoying it.

She’s also returned to puzzles.  They’d taken a hiatus lately but have come back full force.  Last year for Christmas, Jess gave Kamy a 750 piece Thomas Kincade puzzle with Cinderella on it.  We’ve put it together three times as a joint effort.  I do think it’s funny she wanted to do the sky — talk about choosing the hardest part!  It is a couple day project, but she has liked being able to come back to it when we have time.  She’s still very comfortable doing her 100 piece puzzles by herself and we routinely do “puzzle races” to see who can finish theirs first.  With an even piece count, I will still win, but she’s getting closer!

Speaking of races, Kamy earned 1st place in MarioKart!  She has been steadily improving and she was so proud when she accomplished it.  Keller set up her own account on the Wii so she can earn tracks and characters.  She doesn’t seem to be a completionist, but she’s having fun playing.

She’s also getting really quick on her bike!  She peddles so quickly and can far outstrip me unless I am on a bike too.  There’s no keeping up with her on foot anymore.  =)  Both kids love riding their bikes and our weather has been so nice we have been spending a lot of time outside, enjoying it.  From walks in the neighborhood to parks and playgrounds to our neighbor’s trampoline, we’ve been having so much fun being active!

Kamy had a couple of hilarious conversations in early December:

Kamy, age 4, on her magical powers:
Kamy: “I’m the witch momma!”
Daddy: “Oh really? I had no idea we had a witch momma in the family. What kind of spells can you do?”
Kamy: “Well….I can do C. A. T. !!”
Daddy:  (Took me a minute to figure out why she spelled something for me.)
Momma:  “Fair enough!”  <laughs>

Kamy, on her lot in life:
<after telling her brother what to do>
Kamy: “I am the police.”
Daddy: “No, you are not.”
<thinks for a bit>
Kamy: “Then I am the fire truck.”

Lastly, Kamy’s dance class held an end of semester dance program for parents.  It was just at the studio, but it was a chance for the parents and siblings who don’t usually come to dance class to see what they have been learning.  Kamy did great, though she was a little shy having an audience.  She tries so hard and listens extremely well in dance class and I am very proud of her.
