Deck: Round 2

This past weekend we skipped out to Linden again to enjoy family time and finish building the deck.  Both Garin and Payton were able to make it, as was Grandpops since it was the Thanksgiving break.  Keller and I drove out Saturday night and everyone else met us out there on Sunday.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous on our trip.  The trees have turned and leaves were raining on our heads all weekend.

Such a beautiful fall …

Unfortunately while we were out there, I got sick.  I think I got the same thing that Keller had the week before, so I kinda knew what to expect.  It’s mostly a head cold, but a little fever here and there and a lot of coughing.  I’m just *now* getting over it.  Hence, I wasn’t much help on the deck.  I did sit and watch and arm-chair quarterback from the side.  Lol!  Kamy was a great spectator too – especially since her swing was right in the middle of the action.

First up?  Installing the outside joists that run the length of the deck and the end support joists.

Then install the rest of the joists — a total of 8 including the outside ones.

Lastly, install the decking.  A lot of decking.  50 boards!

Almost there …

Last nail!

It took two days, but here’s the finished product.

It looks great and I’m sure it will get a ton of use in the coming years.

Kamy loves her new deck:

Thanks to Grandpops, Garin, and Payton for all their hard work.  It definitely would not have been completed this trip without them.  Building the deck was definitely a learning experience for us and I know it gives us more confidence in our ability to actually get out and build something from scratch.  You never know until you try!
