First Trip to the Zoo

While we were in DFW at the end of September, we made a point of scheduling a trip to the Fort Worth zoo.  Kamy’s always been a big fan of animals and she knows quite a few from reading her books.  We were excited to see what she’s think about seeing them in person.

Needless to say, she had a blast!  She had so much fun and spent nearly 4 hours at the zoo.  We took 2 cars so I could head home when I was out of energy — which was a good plan since I petered out after about 90 minutes.  I’m glad I was able to go for part of it!

We saw all sorts of animals – flamingos, monkeys, giraffes, zebras, elephants, rhinos, tigers, birds, penguins, and the reptile / amphibian / fish aquarium.

Her favorite animals were the flamingos.  They were the very first animals we stopped to see when we got to the zoo.  They were squawking and flapping and moving all around in the cool morning air.  I wish I had caught the expression on her face here, but you can get the gist of what she was thinking by her body language alone!

Look at THAT!

The monkeys were quite entertaining — especially the gibbons who were calling back and forth when we were watching.

After I left, Grandmindy and Daddy took Kamy to the MOLA — the Museum of Living Art, aka the herpetarium with fish and reptiles.  It was nice and cool inside and it was a perfect break from walking around outside.  There was a lot to see!

Upon leaving the zoo, Daddy and Grandmindy stopped in the gift shop.  Apparently Kamy spent a solid 15 or 20 minutes taking each of the stuffed animals off the shelves and hugging them.  Some were good huggers, others weren’t as good.  Since she seemed to gravitate to the monkeys, Daddy pulled all 4 different monkeys down and set them in front of her.  He told her she could have one monkey to take home.  According to Grandmindy and Daddy, you could see her standing there, thinking about which one she wanted most.  She ended up choosing the orange monkey — since named “Ah Ah.”  He’s a great hugger, like our little Kamy-girl.

We’re so glad you had a great time at the zoo McKamy!  I’m sure the zoo will become a favorite place to go when we’re in town.
