19 Month Update

So, I’m dreadfully behind on Kamy’s 19 month update post, but here’s the highlights of what she’s learning and doing these days.

  • Kamy keeps growing like a little weed!  She’s pushing past the 18 month clothes we’ve got in her drawer and is wearing 24 month / 2T sizes.  I’m not ready for her to be in “toddler” clothes!  I’ve been removing the safety pins that hold her pants up too, since she’s starting to fill out a bit and doesn’t need the pins any more to keep her pants on.  She’s also wearing size 4 diapers at night — size 3 was still fitting but wasn’t holding enough to get her through the night.  Hopefully potty training is on the horizon and we can scrap these diapers.  Thank goodness for a high efficiency washing machine, cause I do a LOT of diapers.  Lol!
  • Kamy’s got all of her teeth in, other than the very back set of molars.  She’d been missing her canine upper teeth and the corresponding lower teeth, but all four finished coming in.  She’s got quite a mouthful now!
  • McKamy can count from 1 – 10 without prompting.  She’s associating counting with the actual number of objects and not just a series of sounds.  She’ll count things to entertain herself, going down steps, and she’ll count things when you ask her “how many are there?”  We are working on 11 and 12, but usually anything past 10 is “9, 10, 9, 10.”
  • We’re making more progress on our letters since last month.  If I ask “what letter is this,” she can correctly identify and say: a, b, c, d, e, g, h, j, k, l, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, w, x, y, and z.  That’s a lot!  F, i, m, and u are still flaky.  She knows which way is up and where they go in the puzzle too.  And we’re starting to pick out letters in her books to name as well.  Reading is still a ways off, but I’m hoping to start working on some of those concepts soon (when I get a spare minute to do some research!).
  • Books aren’t quite as popular right now — her puzzles are winning at the moment.  I think I’ll watch for a good deal on some harder puzzles and get her some for Christmas.  We still read a lot though, and if you quote something from a particular book, Kamy will usually go get that book and bring it to you.  We are also starting to let her have regular “page” books and not just board books to read.  She wasn’t careful enough with the pages to have them alone before.
  • Kamy is getting really good at picking up after play time, before bed.  Books aren’t strewn around the house any more, as they get put back on the shelf after reading each one.  And today she started trying to stand them up in line again, instead of just stacking them on her puzzles.  Hooray for an organized child!  =)  She’ll pick up all her waters and arrange them on the shelf, put her stuffed animals back in her basket, and put all her dolls and babies in Caden’s car seat.  I’ve been doing a little more pickup after she goes to bed, but it’s very minimal compared with the potential!

Where the last year and a half has gone, I have no idea.  We no longer have a baby girl, but rather a full-blown toddler.  It’s a good thing, but it makes me sad too, to know she’s growing up so fast.  I’m grateful that I can stay home with her and be so involved in every part of her life.  I know that will change over time, so I’m appreciative for the moments I do have.
