A good portion of this month was spent visiting family — DFW for Payton’s graduation, Liberty Hill to see Reed and Mary, ten days at home before going to Goldthwaite and then back to DFW once again. We were gone more than we were home for five weeks! Now that we have been home for a bit, we are finally getting back into our routines.
- We stayed at Oma and Opa’s house for the majority of our trip to DFW. Keller had to travel to Georgia for work for a few days, so it was really nice to spend some time at my parents’ house to rest, play, and swim. At the end of the week, we left Caden with Oma and Opa and dropped Kamy off with Min for the weekend. We spent 50 hours, just us. It was so nice. =) I love our chill’uns, but it was nice to get a little break and have some us-time. I think the kids had a great time too and we really appreciated everyone wrangling the kids for us.
- When you give Caden a choice between two options, about half the time he’ll say “Ow-bout … bue!” Can you guess who he learned that from? It is super cute!
- We have officially upgraded Caden to a regular chair at the table. He doesn’t need the booster seat any more and will sit on his knees or bottom in a big chair without a problem. He is pretty wiggly though, so we are working on his self control and patience waiting at the table for everyone to finish. Caden also likes to drink out of cups with a lid and a straw, so I have been asking for an extra small cup and lid when we stop at a restaurant or fast food place. He does pretty well with it, as long as the straw isn’t too long. Otherwise he has a tendency to tip over the cup to try to drink and ends up with water everywhere.
- Speaking of meal time, Caden now must ask to be excused from the table when the meal is over. His current version is “May ‘scuse peeeeeas.” He is very emphatic about the please at the end and always emphasizes it heavily.
- If you are ever in doubt about Caden’s understanding of the rules, simply test it by breaking it yourself. Caden called Daddy out after a little burp and said very clearly, “Scuse Daddy.” Hehe! While I wouldn’t call him an enforcer or watching to catch you doing something wrong, he will let you know if you’ve broken protocol.
- Caden’s two new spotting games are calling out airplanes and water towers. While we have few of either out in Lone Star, DFW has a TON of both! Caden was particularly enthralled with all the airplanes flying over Oma and Opa’s house. Since they live close to a flight path, a plane would fly over about once every 90 seconds. It was a bit distracting while we were swimming since he’d want to climb out of the pool, point, and say “air-pane” every time. Silly boy! Kamy saw a water tower while we were running errands and then proceeded to tell Caden all about them. Now each time we see a water tower, Caden calls out “Atta-towaaa.”
- Caden is trying to sing songs! I’ve been singing “Apples and Bananas” for the kids lately. Caden is starting to sing too and will say “eat eat applenana.” Apples and bananas are permanently linked right now, so if we have a banana at breakfast or apple at dinner, it is an “apple-nana.” He will also try to sing the last part of the “ABCs” and a little of “Happy Birthday” sporadically.
- Here is a short video catching most of Caden’s current phrases and mannerisms. I particularly like that hugs must be on both sides and the way he looks for Kamy at the end. This gives you a pretty good glimpse of what we hear from Caden each day.
We love our sweet little boy. He has such a precious, goofy personality that he makes us smile every hour of every day. He means so much to us.
