Caden – July

Caden remains my sweet, goofy son.  He is such a joy to be around and he always makes me smile.  I love his easy going personality … which bodes well for his patience with Kamy because she definitely tries to rule their little world as much as he’ll let her.  =)

*Side note – Nearly all the photos this month were taken out in Linden over the 4th of July, so while you will recognize the backgrounds and shirts, they are additional photos that weren’t posted yet.*

Caden is my little dare devil, within his known limits.  If he thinks he can do something, he goes at it full bore and fully commits.  While swimming in Linden, he figured out it was fun to jump from the dock into the water with his floaties on.  He would bob under the water for a moment and then pop right back up.  He thought it was so much fun, especially if he could splash someone on the way in!  He would also barrel head first off the rafts and would splutter a bit until he got upright.  Silly boy.

Caden also loves to explore.  He is so curious about the world around him — especially outdoors.  He would be perfectly happy spending all day every day outside in the grass and sand and dirt and water and mud and anything else that is typically “boy.”  Linden is his playground and he has so much fun out there.

Overheard one afternoon:
Kamy: “Do you eat monkeys?”
Caden: “No, they go ‘oh ah.'”
Kamy: “Do you eat lady bugs?”
Caden: “No, they go ‘lady lady!'”

We’ve been working on Caden’s listening — primarily his intention to listen and obey.  He has a poor tendency to ignore me when it’s not convenient or when I am telling him to do something he doesn’t want to hear.  After putting him in his room for not doing as he was told, while crying after beating on his door and Daddy fussing at him, we heard this gem, “Hey momma?…….Hey momma?…….I am co-operating!”

Caden also managed to knock over his changing table one morning.  The two of them had been messing around in their room and jumping off the table into the toy box (which was destined to end in tears).  Apparently they had also pulled out all the drawers and were standing in the top one.  Shocker, it fell over.  It was a loud thud and Keller and I were over there quickly to figure out to make sure they were both alright.  The changing table is heavy too, but I guess open drawers that are fully loaded threw off the balance enough to let it tip.  Fortunately there isn’t a ton of clearance between the changing table and the bed, so it landed on the side of the bed and no one was seriously hurt.  That did put an end to jumping off the changing table for the moment though.

The bedtime routine is starting to go smoother now that the novelty has worn off a bit.  Caden goes to bed at 7:45 and Kamy gets fifteen minutes of our one-on-one attention before bedtime if she has everything picked up.  Caden is usually still awake when we bring Kamy in to bed at 8pm, but he is waiting quietly in his bed in the dark, which increases the chance of them being asleep soon.  The kids both seem to like sleeping in the same room and Caden asks every night, “Is Kamy going to sleep in my room tonight?”  Even though he knows the answer.  =)
