Kamy – May

May was a very busy month for Kamy.  Daddy took her to Bossier City, Louisiana for Disney on Ice the first weekend.  We bought her tickets for her birthday, so they took a Daddy-Kamy weekend!  Kamy loved the show, though she couldn’t decide which was her favorite part.  They spent the night in a hotel and Sunday morning at a science museum before coming home.  They always have so much fun during their one-on-one time — I am glad that we have made it a priority to spend that time together. Here’s a snippet from their weekend:

Kamy:  “Daddy, Daddy! My eye hurts!”
Daddy:  “Take your finger out of it.”
Kamy:  “Oh. That’s better.”

Kamy is a little rules-stickler.  She definitely follows the “letter” of the law philosophy, not the spirit of the law.  She is always testing the rules and boundaries — especially while we are at home.  If there is any gray area in a rule, she’ll find it and try to figure out what will happen.  It really gets tiring some times to have these little daily skirmishes over well-established rules, but as inconsistency is not an option on my side, there have been a lot of consequences lately.  This was on Keller’s facebook in May:  “Momma and Kamy have declared war. I’m holding a protest for peace on my back porch later today.”

Then there are the bigger questions in life … “How much trouble will I get in for taking the liquid hand soap out of the bathroom and pouring it all over my legs and hands and carpet in my room when I’m already doing a penalty in my room because I am in trouble?!”  Oh Kamy-girl, you wear me out!  Fortunately I was able to get most of the soap and residue out of her carpet, thanks to salt and a shop vac.  Needless to say we had a long conversation about what is and is not appropriate.  I swear some days she just goes looking for trouble, though thus-far this has been the most egregious example.  To be fair, Caden joined in the fun the next time with diaper rash cream all over the windows and bed frame …

Kamy has even started issuing her own ultimatums.  Once she threatened that she wouldn’t eat breakfast if I did something again.  Oh no!  =P  I told her that was totally up to her and well within her power to decide.  Guess what?  She ate breakfast.

The kids are finally getting past their fear of dogs.  They’ve never been bitten or had a bad experience with one, but they’ve been skittish around dogs since the start.  This month we seem to have broken through the barrier with Min’s dogs, Teddy and Aggie.  As long as Teddy is on a leash they’ll consider petting and sitting next to him.  On a particularly good day we took photos with them together and they look like the best of friends!  Who would even know they didn’t like dogs?

As an incentive to take care of business in the bathroom (hand soap not-withstanding), she earned a new pack of undies and a shake from Sonic this month!  I know she can do it, so this seems to be an effective motivator for the time being.  I’m hoping that we’ll finally come over the hill and she’ll give up this battle.  But again, where there’s a will, there’s a way with my Kamy.

I was able to attend IRD for Alpha Gam while we were in DFW.  As a result, I overheard this little gem:  “Com’on Caden, I need to go get dressed for my Alpha Gam thing.  Mom, I need your Alpha Gam pin for my dress!”  She is my little mini-me!  Maybe she’ll be an AGD legacy one day.  =)
