Kamy — September

Kamy is continuing voice lessons.  She has been practicing breathing correctly, singing the correct pitch with a keyboard, and learning about note lengths.  Her teacher Clayson is doing a great job working with her and I can tell Kamy is paying attention and doing her best!

Kamy volunteered to do a little photo shoot for a photographer friend here in town.  She wanted a new image for a promotion she was going to run and asked if anyone’s little girl would be interested in posing in some dresses.  Kamy jumped at the chance!  She loves to pose for photos and was so excited.  She did great too!  Ruth ended up with some beautiful photos of Miss Kamy!

I took a few as well, though I don’t think they’re quite as good.  I certainly don’t have a knack with editing software.

Someone needed a trip to the ER this month!  Kamy was running outside at a friends house, tripped, and managed to get a piece of wood lodged under the skin on the top of her foot.  It was a LOT more than my tweezers would be up to and she was in a fair amount of pain.  The ER we went to took great care of her and she was very brave.  Some local anesthesia and three stitches later, she was good to go.  Kamy had to stay off her foot for four days and she had the stitches removed on the last day of the month.  She is pretty competent with crutches now, though she was a lot faster hopping on one foot where ever she was heading.  =)  The ER gave her a little puppy stuffed animal that she named Golden.  Kamy was very brave and did great.

Kamy is still level 3 in gymnastics but had the chance to do level testing at the end of the month.  She is still pushing to move up to the next level as soon as she can.  She’s especially interested in learning how to vault, which they don’t work on until level 4.

Kamy was given some vintage jewelry owned by her great great grandmothers.  Keeping everything protected and organized was challenging, so I bought her a jewelry armoire to store it.  There’s plenty of room now for all her jewelry and she can actually take care of it correctly.  Nothing is particularly valuable, but it is all shiny and sparkly and fancy, which is right up Kamy’s alley.

Kamy is totally fixated on how to make money.  Since the lemonade stand is over until next year, they have been frantically (and creatively) thinking of things they can create for income.  Right now they are planning to make cardboard head bands, perler bead creations, spirographs, and cookies.  Clay sculptures are on the table as well.  We’ve talked about how both kids need a LOT more practice to make better, more creative things before successfully selling them, but since that’s not what they want to hear, they are forging ahead anyway.  Chores are inadequate though, because they’re boring.  Never mind they are guaranteed income …

At the beginning of the month, the four of us all went to Hurricane Harbor.  The kids love the colorful tube slides that you ride on a mat.  We all enjoyed riding the Wahoo Racers.  We lost our car key and season passes at one point, but they were turned in to lost and found and thus were found!  Hurricane Harbor wasn’t too terribly busy, which made the lines much more tolerable.  By mid-afternoon it was getting more crowded through, so we headed out.  On the way back home, we ate lunner at Kenny’s in Addison (Keller’s favorite restaurant).  Both kids were very polite and enjoyed the meal.  Caden ordered dessert for us and our waiter was very impressed.

The following weekend, we drove down to New Braunfels.  We promised the kids a trip to Schlitterbahn if they learned how to swim (and stuck it out through all the freezing swim lessons in January and February) so this was the last opportunity to make it happen this summer.  Both kids had a blast at Schlitterbahn!  Kamy’s favorite ride was the Master Blaster water roller coaster, while Caden loved the Black Knight two person tube slide.  Keller’s favorite was the old style tube shoots like Cliffhanger, while I really liked the new tube shoot called The Falls.  Kamy fell and scraped up her knee at one point, but she didn’t let that stop her from having fun.

Sunday morning we grabbed breakfast and then went to Fiesta Texas.  We were already down there, so with our season tickets it was easy to work into our plans.  Keller, Kamy and I all rode the Iron Rattler which was a lot of fun and one of Keller’s top 5 coasters.  Caden really liked the Roadrunner coaster and both kids enjoyed the smaller rides for kids.  We went back to the car and changed into swimsuits to go to the water park section of Fiesta Texas.  Unfortunately it was pretty crowded, so we only rode a couple of rides before we were done.  It was a fun, successful weekend, but we were all pretty tired by the time we got back home late Sunday night!

Kamy wrapped up her 3rd grade math curriculum.  There are a few things that we glossed over, like memorizing the times tables, but otherwise she’s got a pretty good grasp of the concepts.  I am very proud of her!  I think we’re going to side track a bit in Beast Academy math before pushing on to 4th grade concepts.

We have been doing a new spelling and writing program.  Both kids are doing it concurrently, and I am still tweaking it, but so far it has been a good way to give Kamy more confidence in her spelling and Caden more practice with his handwriting and legibility.
