This month I upgraded Kamy to 100 piece puzzles! She’s had the 60 piece puzzles down pat for a while now, so I thought it was time to increase the challenge. I ordered two new puzzles for her and have definitely found a new favorite! I figured the puzzle with a ballerina, fairies, and glitter would be up her alley and I was right! =) These puzzles are markedly harder than the ones she was doing before, mostly because there are fewer pieces with distinguishing characteristics and more generic backgrounds. This means she has to pay a lot more attention to the little details and changes in color rather than just the obvious pieces. She’s doing awesome with them and can complete the ballerina one on her own already. I love that she loves to do puzzles … and I hope it means that math will be a little bit easier for her on the way.
Kamy’s current nickname is “George Me Too.” She wants to have a part ofevery little thing that Caden does. If he wants it, she wants it too. If Daddy does something for Caden, she wants Daddy to do it for her too. She is not at all shy about it either and it is extremely apparent that she is copying him. I certainly appreciate that Kamy wants to be involved, but a lot of the time she is doing it to take attention off Caden. We are making a point to do certain things just with one kid so neither one feels overshadowed.
Someone has picked up another teasing name this month too — Miss Nosey Nose. She wants to be a part of everything that is happening. If Momma and Daddy are talking, she asks questions about our conversation. If Caden is crying, she’ll ask what happened. The name is said with a smile and I doubt it will stick long term, but it sure is appropriate right now.
Kamy is a pro at narrating events and retelling stories. She’s always had an eye for details and she makes a point to walk you through the process step-by-step. Part of her narration now includes the phrase, “And I said, ‘Hmmm.'” It is so funny when she does it!
Miss Kamy LOVES to dance. She spins around and sways to music whenever it is playing at home. She’s especially fond of dancing in her Cinderella night gown. She’ll even pull the curtains open in the office and watch herself dance in the reflection of the glass. =) I’m considering signing her up for ballet classes next fall. Kamy loves to dance with anyone who will give her the time and will direct you in the “correct” way to dance to her songs.
There are always new conversations that make us marvel at how her little brain is working. Here is one of the most interesting ones from this month:
- “Daddy, here are some flowers for you.”
- <5 minutes pass>
- “Daddy, when you are gone, those flowers will be mine.”
- “When I’m gone?”
- “Yes, when you die.”
- “I see…”
We have also been working through a battle of wills between Momma and Kamy. Some days are certainly easier than others, but Kamy is really pushing for her independence and testing to see what she can get away with. Unfortunately for her, the answer is “Not Much.” That being said, she tacked on an hour and fifteen minutes to nap time one afternoon by defiance. In 5 minute increments. She wouldn’t close her door for nap time and was standing against it to keep me from closing it. I even added the door knob cover as additional consequences. She has had a couple other confrontations since then, but hopefully we’ll work through them soon. They sure make me tired!
One of Kamy’s front teeth changed colors this month. Apparently if a tooth gets knocked just wrong, the blood vessels in the teeth can break and the tooth will darken. It is almost like a bruise, only it can’t go anywhere and just stays inside the tooth. We were somewhat concerned about it and wanted to get it checked out. We went to see our family dentist in March and he said there is nothing to worry about — it doesn’t seem to have damaged the adult tooth above it, and if anything it will just fall out earlier than if it hadn’t had a problem. I’d never heard of this happening, so I was very relieved after a little research and finding out how common it is.
