We continue to try new baby foods with Kamy day by day. I’ve mostly stuck to the Earth’s Best baby foods but will occasionally use the Gerber organics too. I’m still dragging my feet on making my own until I figure out how I really want to approach it and what foods to make.
McKamy loves nearly any fruit, while veggies are hit or miss. We’ve also added some of the protein based foods – including baby food with turkey or chicken mixed it. I have to admit, the meats smell awful and don’t really taste good to me, but if she’s open to it, great! Variety is always good and it’s a great way to add in those veggies that she doesn’t like.
The volume that she’s eating at one time has also increased significantly. Especially if it’s one that she really likes, she’ll eat the majority of a 3.5 oz jar in about 15 minutes (one sitting). Then we’ll finish it off at the next meal and switch to something else for a bit of variety. Depending on how often her thumb ends up in her mouth, feeding can take anywhere from 10 – 30 minutes before she’s done. She’s getting quicker between bites though and some times I have a hard time keeping up with her!
I’m still usually feeding her solid foods once per day – around lunch time. I haven’t found a really good way to work in another feeding around her schedule. I’ll probably start adding a second feeding in the evenings before Keller gets home.
Here’s our current situation:
Likes these fruits (alone or in combination) – apples, blueberries, pears, mango, banana, raspberries, peaches
Likes these veggies – carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin
Will tolerate – winter squash, butternut squash, corn
Does NOT like – peas and green beans.
Ewww! I love the expression on her face and you can just see the peas sitting on her tongue (which were spit out shortly after the photo was taken!).
Our two favorite proteins are the Apple Turkey and Cranberry or Chicken and Brown Rice. She’ll also eat the Vegetable Turkey Dinner.
We still have a few more in the pantry to try – including spinach and potato which I’m guessing is gonna be a No Go. But it’s worth trying, right?!?
I’m hoping to motivate myself to make some apples and apple sauce for Kamy now that we’re really hitting fall and the apples are in season. There’s an organic apple UPick farm up the road here, so that’s probably where I’ll go to get the produce. I’ll keep you posted!
