As mentioned in Caden’s June update post, we’ve moved the kids into the same room. It also functions as our guest room, so Kamy has been sleeping on the queen bed and Caden remains in his toddler bed. When we have guests visiting, we just shift Kamy either to her toddler bed which is still set up in Keller’s new office (aka – Kamy’s old room), or will make up a pallet of blankets to sleep on the floor. So far, so good. The kids really do seem to like sleeping in the same room and once we got past the hijinks that came with a shared bedtime routine, things are going pretty smoothly. Overall it has been a very positive thing and Kamy only occasionally asks why she doesn’t have her own room any more. When asked, she is split on whether she wants to share a room at the next house our have her own. I think in her perfect world she’d have her own but have the option to sleep in Caden’s room too. We’ll see — regardless she has made it clear she wants a pink room. =) That’s my Kamy!
With the shared room comes shared responsibility and sometimes a harder time determining who is at fault when it comes to behaviors and messes. Kamy has experimented with the blame-game already and I’ve heard “Caden did it” several times when I have my strong suspicions that she was (if not the culprit) certainly the instigator. Of course it was Caden’s fault that the diaper rash cream was all over everything, but who’s idea do you think it was? I have my guess! So far Caden is very straightforward when it comes to admitting guilt or placing blame, but Kamy is learning the fine art of misleading. You can’t fault her for trying, but it’s gonna make the next 14 years more challenging!
Someone is also attempting to sneak out of bed and spy on us after bedtime. She creeps out of her room and will stand either in the hallway or just inside the bathroom door to watch us, especially on game nights when we have our neighbors over to play board games. She’s getting quieter and can sometimes get away with it for a few minutes before we notice her. Then she uses the excuse of needing to use the potty when we do see her. Another rite of passage — I assume all kids try it at some point.
Daddy has a new nickname for Miss Kamy — KamyBelle. They came up with it one afternoon while coloring at the table and it has stuck. I think it’s super sweet … even if it has meant Daddy gets called DaddyBelle on occasion. Lol!
Further proof that Kamy listens to every. single. word you say around her.: While discussing weekend plans, Keller and I were looking into visiting the Tyler Zoo. We were checking their hours and said
Daddy: “The zoo is open from 9 to 5 today.”
Kamy pipes up and says, “But I’m not old enough!”
Daddy: “Sure you are Kamy!”
Kamy: “But I’m not nine OR five!”
Probably most exciting, Kamy started a summer dance class this month! She has expressed so much interest in dancing, I wanted to find a summer dance program for her to try out. Most of the dance studios in the area follow the school year for her age group and signups are for September – May classes. I did find a studio that held a two month long class for four year olds. We talked with Kamy about commitment and if she wanted to take the class, she would be committing to going to class for 8 weeks. No whining or “I don’t want to go” was allowed. She’s having so much fun in the class! Each week they meet for 45 minutes — 30 minutes of either ballet or tap and another 15 minutes of tumbling. There are usually about 8 girls in the class with a teacher and an assistant. It is not a super professional studio, but it has worked out really well as a way to test the waters and see if Kamy would be interested long term. Arguably she has progressed the most in tumbling — she loves to show off her somersaults, pencil rolls, and leap-froggies. She is teaching Caden how to do it too. Kamy is doing great in the class. She listens so well and is a model student when it comes to waiting her turn and following directions. I’m so proud of her!

Kamy remains a water bug, like her brother. She’s doing great at swimming with her floaties and she will motor all around on her own. She doesn’t like to jump in or get her head under water, so she is definitely more tentative than Caden. Once in though, she is a happy little fish.
